KENDAL Judo Club's juniors were on top form last weekend in the North West Area Closed Tournament for under 18-year-olds at Sutton Leisure Centre.
Watched by the area team manager, not only medals but places on the North West Area Squad were at stake.
Such is Kendal's standard that at one stage finalists from the club were simultaneously competing on all four mats.
Spearheading the medal charge, Mark Wilson captured a gold at -73kilo and silvers went to Danny Harper
(-66k), Calum Hartley (-60k), Chris Miller (-55k) and Laura Hogg (-48k).
There were bronzes for Lewis Pendleton
(-66k), Gavin Lewis (-60k) and James Wright (-55k).
All of Kendal's medallists, along with Lian Wilson (+60k), gained places on the North West squad to fight in this year's Nationals at Crystal Palace on November 9-10.
Earlier in the day, Kendal's up-and-coming under 12-year-olds easily matched the opposition with golds going to Sam Lester (+50k), Matthew Wright (-42k) and Nathan Hogg (-34k).
There were silvers for Daniel Asplin (-42k) and Michael Carr (-38k), while bronzes went to Leigh Dickinson (-38k) and Mark Carruthers (-34k).
Bethany Hoggarth had already earned her place on the North West Area squad for Crystal Palace and competed in Bremen in Germany last weekend.
Faced with two competitions and nine matches over two days, Beth was awarded a cadet silver medal.
She then secured fifth place fighting for Great Britain in the under 20-year-old section.
