STREET lighting in Carnforth is helping Lancashire County Council slash its greenhouse gas emissions.
As part of a pledge to reduce its use of fossil fuels, all 136,000 street lights provided by the council across Lancashire - including those in the north of the county - are now powered by wind-generated electricity.
The environmentally-friendly move will ensure the council's CO2 emissions are reduced by 25 tonnes per annum over the next two years.
As part of its clean energy drive, the council is also moving towards using energy-efficient light bulbs wherever possible.
