DEVELOPERS have offered to let Carnforth Town Council have a piece of land at no purchase cost.
Richard Colley, project designer with Shepherd Homes, which recently won planning permission to build 46 homes on the Old Coal Yard site, attended the latest town council meeting to explain the offer of a building and land off North Road, which forms part of the site.
Clerk to the council John Pratt said Mr Colley had told the meeting that the company was reviewing its plans for that section of the land - which is separate from the main site - and was looking to dispose of it rather than develop it into three affordable homes.
The council would not have to pay any purchase cost, although it would have to pay any legal costs.
Mr Pratt said the council had decided it wanted to look into the possibility of taking on the land, and that members of the finance committee would discuss the proposal further at their next meeting.
He added any changes to the developers' original plans would need to be approved by city council planners.
