POLICE are appealing for witnesses after thieves smashed a glass door at a filling station and stole £180 worth of tobacco.
Around 70 packs of Drum and Golden Virginia rolling tobacco were stolen from Prizet Filling Station, Sedgwick, near Kendal at around midnight on October 6.
Prizet co-director Simon Hockings said the main glass door of the filling station had been smashed by thieves using a large stone, causing around £1,500 of damage.
Mr Hockings said the garage alarm was set off immediately and police were on the scene within minutes.
"The police arrived very quickly but unfortunately they didn't catch them.
They (the thieves) obviously didn't have a lot of time in the garage and we don't think anything else was taken.
I doubt they were professionals but they have caused a lot of mess and disruption," he said.
