PLANS for redevelopment of Dufton youth hostel in Eden have been announced as a drive to raise more than £200,000 and secure its future gathers pace. Losses to the Youth Hostel Association brought on by foot-and-mouth in 2001 meant the building was identified for closure by the organisation earlier this year. But objections by local residents who began a campaign to save the hostel saying it brought much-needed trade to the area and provided accommodation for visitors has led to a feasibility study and the new proposals which will be considered by Eden planners in the new year.
