For our latest photo competition we have taken inspiration from the fact that the United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2003 the International Year of Freshwater. Take a look at the UN's website (click above or see link below) to find out more. The aim is to increase awareness of the importance of sustainable freshwater use, management and protection. Take a look at the photobank on the site's water page (see link below) and you'll find pictures from around the world. If it gets your creative juices flowing why not enter our competition and share your talents behind the lens with our many loyal site users.

In keeping with the theme of freshwater you should find no shortage of subject matter within easy reach. Think Lake District lakes, rivers, streams, brooks and waterfalls.

The winners will get their entry published in a photo gallery on this very website.

Email your photos to us in Jpeg file format to digital.media@kendal.newsquest.co.uk
