A Lancaster student hoping to hit the music big time has moved to the country music capital, Nashville.

Tyler Roberts, 22, who studied marketing at Lancaster University is busy performing showcases to US labels and radio stations after a recording studio invited him over to record an album.

The Nashville studio, who have recorded the likes of REM and Shania Twain, made the offer after hearing Tyler's self-penned songs, which have been influenced by the likes of Bryan Adamas and Elton John.

"I did a recording on my home computer and sent it to Nashville after getting details off the internet," said Tyler.

"They got back in touch and said they'd pay for me to record three tracks. They were impressed by what they heard and asked for another seven to make a complete album. It was very daunting at first, just landing in Nashville and not knowing anyone, but I've virtually moved out there in the last few months and made some good friends."

Tyler's album is called Pick it Up and features wholly original material.

"My music is suited to an American audience and now I'm just hoping that someone picks it up and likes what they hear. You hear a lot of horror stories about wannabee musicians going to Nashville and being ripped off but everyone's been really great and helped me a lot."
