BUSINESSES can tap into a wide range of help and advice on how to make the best use of computer technology at exhibitions next week.
It is hoped that the events will help firms to avoid buying IT equipment that they do not need.
"The emphasis will be on the efficient use of technology," said Andy Norris, IT adviser for
Business Link for Cumbria and UK Online for Business in Cumbria organisation.
"I don't want businesses wasting their time and money on technology that is not right for them. I want them to see what is available before they buy, to discuss it with suppliers and to make absolutely certain that what they are buying is what they need.
"Cumbria has several hundred companies specialising in com-puters, software and information technology, so there is no need for people to travel out of county or rely solely on telephone conversations to get a good, reliable service at affordable prices."
The exhibitions are being organised through UK Online for Business - a programme offering expert, impartial, jargon-free help, information and support on the best use of technology for small and medium-sized businesses, and Cumbria Institute of the Arts - and are supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
Representatives of business support organisations such as Business Link, local enterprise agencies, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Cumbria Tourist Board will also be on hand at the events, which have attracted more than 30 exhibitors offering services such as accounting, broadband, multimedia, trading online and web design.
The exhibitions, which will run from 10am to 6pm, are being staged at the Abbey House Hotel, Barrow, on Tuesday, February 11, and the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, on Friday, February 21.
Admission is free and anyone can attend the exhibitions.
While booking is not essential, organisers would prefer people to register in advance by visiting www.ecumbria.org/event/event.htm.
