DESPITE awful weather, Kendal Ladies took on Barrow in the Netherwood League and won 2-1.
Both sides attacked hard in a fast-paced opening spell and Barrow missed a few scoring chances before they broke down a stubborn Kendal defence and took a one-goal lead into the break.
The determined exchanges continued in the worsening conditions in the second half.
Kendal managed to level the scores through a Louise Whiteley strike and that lifted the tempo for an exciting final 10 minutes.
Kendal's hard work paid off when Sarah Baron scored a last-minute winning goal.
There were strong performances for Kendal from Sarah Dent, Kirsty Ormerod and Claire Howarth.
n In last week's report the Kendal scorer was Louise Whiteley and not as published.
On Sunday Ambleside played Allithwaite in a friendly fixture, which ended 2-2.
Allithwaite were two players short so Ambleside made up their team.
On a cold and wet pitch, both teams worked hard with Allithwaite taking a first-half lead.
The young Ambleside team drew level in the second half and drew level from a goal by Melissa Carr, Allithwaite hit back straight away when Claire Atherton, an Ambleside player, put them ahead.
After a torrid time for the Allithwaite goalkeeper during which she saved everything fired at her, Sue Conway slotted in the equaliser but, try as they may, Ambleside could not find the winning goal.
