A MASSIVE search was continuing this morning for two women walkers who have been missing since yesterday afternoon in the Scafell area of the Lake District.
Police received a phone call from one of the women at 4.30pm yesterday saying that they had become disorientated in mist and she had injured her ankle. They have not heard from them since.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team mounted an initial search but when the ladies, who are believed to come from Morecambe, were not located they asked for the assistance of volunteers from Langdale and Ambleside and Wasdale Mountain Rescue Teams.
The search resumed this morning with 80 volunteers and search dogs combing the fells and helicopters from RAF Valley and Boulmer assisting those on the ground.
The women had been holidaying in the area and had set off from Seathwaite to walk in the Scafell area. Their car is still parked at Seathwaite. It is not known how well equipped they are.
