CONTROVERSIAL historian David Starkey is coming back to his home town of Kendal to talk about the six wives of Henry Vlll.
The popular broadcaster, renowned for his outspoken opinions, attracted a full house at the Brewery Arts Centre when he gave a talk on the young Elizabeth l two years ago.
Kendal Civic Society secretary Patricia Hovey told the Gazette: "He enjoyed his last visit so much, he said he would like to come back again."
Dr Starkey, 58, was brought up in a council house in Kendal by Quaker parents. His father Robert was a metal turner, and his mother Elsie was a former cotton weaver. The brilliant student was educated at the former Castle Street Primary School, Kendal Grammar School and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.
His talk at the Brewery on May 12 is jointly organised by Kendal Civic Society and the Kendal branch of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society. Tickets priced £6 will be on sale at the Brewery box office from April 8, and a sell-out is predicted.
