A few years back Goldie and LTJ Bukem almost succeeded in making drum & bass go mainstream. Then it went pear-shaped. The melodies, chill-out vibes and booming basslines that made it accessible to the masses quickly became a cliche. In response the music became darker, harder, more minimal and downright scary.
Thankfully, the party is back on again. Last year's hits from Shy FX, Peshay, Andy C & DJ Marky have made drum & bass popular again.
Pure Drum & Bass' brings together the big tracks from the last year or so whilst steering clear from over-exposed playlist tracks. Included are Shimon & Andy C, London Elektricity, Zed Bias, EZ Rollers, Roni Size, High Contrast. Basically, it's a roll call of anything decent that's been happening recently.
An excellent introduction to the scene and a great compilation.
