Five people were taken to hospital after a road accident involving two cars on the A595 at Chapels, Kirkby-in-Furness, on Saturday evening. Two passengers in a Subaru car were taken to the intensive car unit at Furness General Hospital with serious injuries. Three passengers in a Rover car were released by fire fighters and taken to the same hospital with various injuries. Police did not release details of those hurt. The road was closed for five hours while emergency services dealt with the incident, which happened at about 11.20pm. Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
