Prune forsythias after they have finished flowering, by cutting one third of all stems down to ground level.
Sow seeds of hardy annuals direct into the soil where they are to flower. Sow them in short rows to make them easy to spot amongst any weed seeds that germinate at the same time.
Trim the old flower heads off winter-flowering heathers.
