A PLAN to build a skateboard park in Kirkby Stephen has been given the backing of councillors.
Members of Eden District Council's community and economy committee agreed that their officers should work with the Kirkby Stephen Skateboard Project to develop the park to ensure it is built to a standard appropriate for adoption.
The group behind the £25,000 plan hopes the council will adopt the completed park for maintenance and insurance purposes.
They are hoping to build the park on land owned by Kirkby Stephen Grammar School next to the town's mountain rescue team base. The plans include floodlighting and CCTV.
A further report will be brought to the committee in the future about costs and liability in the event of accidents.
