YOUNG people across the district who have turned 18 this year are being urged to use their first voting opportunity in the local elections on May 1.
Over recent weeks many young people have taken to the streets to make a stand on issues such as the Iraq conflict - yet that age group is among the least likely to turn out at the poll.
But with more than 3,350 18-year-olds in the Lancaster district, the Electoral Commission says they have a real part to play in shaping their community.
