AN ORGANISATION that is dedicated to helping its members find new business is moving into South Lakeland.

Business Networking Inter-national held its first meeting in Kendal last week and operates by enabling members to network amongst each other.

The formula has proved very successful, with the BNI operating more than 2,700 chapters or groups spread over 14 countries, including over 420 in the UK.

Membership is restricted to one profession per chapter and last year UK chapter members benefited directly from 300,000 referrals amounting to

£79 million worth of orders.

Peter Harman is the driving force behind the proposed new chapter for Kendal, and he says the idea of members referring business to each other and giving support and advice to fellow members will particularly benefit businesses in an area like Cumbria, which is not highly industrialised.

Mr Harman, who recently moved to Windermere from the Birmingham area, is aiming to start up four chapters in South Lakeland and Furness during the coming year, covering Kendal, Barrow, Ulverston and Kirkby Lonsdale.
