One burning question! Are Athlete going to be the next big thing? They have quality, there's no doubt. They can write classy tunes, there's no doubt. The trouble they have is you can't pin them down. They're not entirely indie, not Brit Pop, not folk but they do cover all these bases and more and that's the big problem Athlete face. To discerning music lovers, such a wide range of styles is like a Pandora's Box and one to be savoured. Songs like One Million' are just sensational and while new single El Salvador' may not have been entirely the right choice for a debut, it's more than made up for by the other tunes on offer. Vehicles and Animals' is a good listen that is a grower. Mercury winner? We can only wait and see but they must be in with a shout. RU
