TWO defeats in the final week of their UniBond League campaign mean that Kendal Town end the season in 12th place in the First Division table.
Yet that position is no mean achievement for a club, which only stayed in the Division by default last year, escaping relegation when Gretna opted to join the Scottish League.
Workington 2, Kendal Town 1.
Two first half strikes by Workington's Craig Johnston settled this Cumbrian derby, the penultimate match of the season. Good work by Town substitute David Foster on 62 minutes handed his side a lifeline.
Holland was unable to gather Foster's low shot and Gareth Jones reacted quickly to squeeze the ball home from the narrowest of angles.
Despite Kendal pressure Workington held out to take the points to lift them above Town in the tabe.
Kidsgrove Athletic 3, Kendal Town 1
The curtain finally came down on Kendal Town's season with a 3-1 defeat on their first ever visit to Kidsgrove. They fell behind on 10 minutes to a free-kick by Richard Eyers and struggled to gain any sort of momentum towards recovery.
It was not until the 37th minute that the Kidsgrove goal came under any pressure.
A defensive lapse at the start of the second half resulted in Wayne Mountford adding a second Kidsgrove goal after Eyres shot was only partially cleared.
On 70 minutes Eyres continued to torment the Town defence, picking out Dean Spinks who was able to make it 3-0.
Ian Simpson ensured that Kendal had the last word with a consolation strike 10 minutes from time.
