Why risk picnicing in the rain when the Kendal Choral Society can promise you a dry and music-filled night at Kendal town hall.

The group has something a little bit different on the cards for its May concert a cabaret-style prom with a picnic interval.

The unusual event, which takes place on May 10 and is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Queen's coronation, will see conductor Alan Gardner at the helm with accompanist Mike Critchlow.

With music through the ages from Madrigals and folk songs to romantic ballads and Gilbert and Sullivan the programme features well-known alto Janet Hoyle and an ensemble from Morecambe Brass Band.

The performers will then come together for Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and World in Unison before the grande finale Land of Hope and Glory.

All proceeds from the musical night will go to New Beginnings - a Kendal-based charity helping street children in Ukraine which is being backed by The Westmorland Gazette.

As part of the novel night The Citizen has teamed up with the society to offer one lucky winner two free tickets to the concert and a bottle of bubbly, kindly donated by Booths supermarket in Kendal.
