CARK children and adults gathered to take part in a community project to improve and encourage interest in the environment surrounding the River Eea.
The living willow workshop led by Steve Fuller and Simone Siegan of Willowpool Designs saw keen conservationists learn how to weave willow shapes which were planted along the riverside.
The community event was sponsored by global conservation charity Earthwatch and funded by the Millennium Commission and Royal and Sun Alliance.
The organiser, Gilian Cleeve, was fulfilling the community part of her Millennium Award for over 50s which took her to Chile to study the endangered southern river otter for two weeks last October.
Ms Cleeve said that she didn't expect to see otters on the River Eea but wants to improve the habitat for birds and community enjoyment.
