How did the weekend games go?
Dave: Well our day trip to Stanley Park was cut short. It poured down. Yet again I lost the toss and Mark Lomas had no hesitation in electing to bat, which wasn't a surprise as the wicket was fairly hard and dry in comparison to the outfield which was full of moss, soft and wet.
We took early wickets to reduce the home side to 60 for 5, then the new batsmen, a young left hander came in and decided to chance his arm and took them rather fortunately to 90 for 5 in quick time when the rain came on heavy.
This was a bit of a shame as we had the top five out and we would have fancied our chances in chasing a low total on a good flat pitch.
Tommy: First home game and heavy rain on Friday is a little disappointing but we should have expected it. Clement is fit to play and I lose the toss and Michael Clinning puts us in to bat on a fairly hard but moistish wicket.
We had compiled 80 for the loss of 2 wickets when the rain comes, so overs start to disappear we end up getting 115 (Strydom 68) so they are left with 40 overs to get our score
Worry again, need some rain from somewhere, which finally comes and they lose some overs.
We got their main batsmen out and we are suddenly in a good position pushing for more points. How fast this game can change from good to bad or bad to good! So we emerge with six points from a problematic situation - a decent result in the end.
On Sunday we suffered defeat at the hands of Preston who we face on Saturday, so revenge will be needed to get back to winning ways!!
So who do you both play this coming weekend?
Dave:Tomorrow we have Leyland at home, who we hear are struggling financially and have made one of last year's amateurs professional. We will be looking to take maximum points at home on a good wicket.
We then travel to Morecambe on Bank Holiday Monday which is always a big game against a strong side; hopefully we can perform to our potential and compete to pick up the points.
Tommy After Preston on Saturday we have Darwen at home on Monday and I anticipate the normal heated game, with us, hopefully, getting the upper hand by staying calm when the game gets going. We will need to play to our best on both days to gain two needed victories.
How frustrating is it when the weather intervenes?:
Dave: Obviously if you are in a poor position, it can be a blessing; however last year and already this year I feel Kendal has had a poor run of luck with results affected by the weather, especially when the other teams in contention with you seem to have better luck.
You only have to look in the handbook to see we had at least two more matches rained off than any other team in the league. I strongly believe you make your own luck, so we must be doing something wrong.
Tommy: Rain hopefully will not affect too many games this year "Rain hopefully will not affect too many games this year but if you have good luck with the weather in a season, it can help a great deal. So we can only hope for a sunny
summer.
