POLICE are warning householders to be on their guard after two Kendal homes were raided by a sneak thief.
Crime prevention officer Terry Belshaw asked people to "keep the key turned" on their doors and windows and not to head into their gardens leaving valuables insecure.
"It's an easy target people leaving a door open and a handbag or purse on the table," he said.
The alert was issued after a homeowner on Low Fellside disturbed a man rifling through coats hanging in the hall one of two thefts reported this week in the same area.
He was described as in his late teens or early 20s, around 5ft6'', casually dressed in tracksuit bottoms.
Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
