THE curtain finally came down on Kendal Town's season, but a 3-1 defeat by Kidsgrove was not the finale for which they would have wished.
It was their first ever visit to Kidsgrove and they fell behind on 10 minutes to a free-kick by Richard Eyres.
Town struggled to gain any sort of momentum towards recovery and it was not until the 37th minute that the Kidsgrove goal came under any pressure.
Luckless Ian Simpson was unfortunate to see his angled drive run across the face of goal and narrowly wide of keeper Tim Mullock's far post.
Following Simpson's overdue attempt, Philip Hodgson released Gareth Jones on goal two minutes later, but the former Barrow striker shot over. A defensive lapse at the start of the second half resulted in Wayne Mountford adding a second Kidsgrove goal. He netted after an Eyres shot was only partially cleared.
On 70 minutes Eyres continued to torment the Town defence with a darting run down the right before picking out Dean Spinks who was able to make it 3-0.
Simpson ensured that Kendal had the last word with a consolation strike 10 minutes from time as they ended their season in 12th place in the league.
