TOWN criers from across the globe, including Australia, will be competing in the first ever competition to be staged in Dalton-in-Furness later this month.
On Sunday, May 25, eight town criers will be competing for the winning title in the Furness and South Lakeland Town Crier championships.
The event has been organised by Dalton and Barrow town crier Alan Brown as part of Dalton's Charter Festival.
He is hoping if successful the competition will become a regular feature on the town's annual events calendar.
Ulverston town crier for many years Coun Alf Jarvis will also be taking part in the competition.
Mr Brown said: "We have even got a female town crier for Australia taking part as she is already in England taking part in the world championships."
At 10am competitors will take part in a parade from Tudor Square to Market Cross where at 11am the crying will begin. Each town crier will complete two cries, one that they use in their home-town and another of their own choice.
"I am still waiting for confirmation from the judges and about the prizes," said Mr Brown. "But if we get the crowds to the event and it is a success, I hope we can hold it every year or every other year in the town."
