ORGANISERS of the gruelling 40-mile Keswick to Barrow hike are hoping to walk all over last year's recording breaking amount raised for charity.
The committee collected £47,000 for more than 90 charities, many of them local, last year. Secretary of the walk Neil Smith said this year they hoped it would be in excess of £50,000.
Since the event was launched as a fundraising walk in 1969 the committee has raised nearly £750,000 for charity.
The walk on Saturday, which starts at 6 am, has attracted almost 1,000 entries including a team from Holland and a man from Alaska.
Runners are expected to start passing the finishing line at the BAE Sports Club on Hawcoat Lane at about 11am. Walkers will start drifting in at about 3pm. But children are expected to take up to 15 hours to complete the course. The youngest person taking part is 13-years-old and the oldest a 73-year-old man from Carlisle.
People who have not yet signed up to take part are still being encouraged to enter.
Anyone who is still considering taking part can contact Mr Smith on 07801 717909 or look at the website: http://www.keswick2barrow.co.uk
