PLANS are afoot for a £40,000 scheme to regenerate Kendal's economy after a succession of job losses over the last 18 months.

The Kendal Partnership, a group involving community, private and public sector representatives, is proposing to promote the area as a place to shop and enjoy leisure pursuits.

Yesterday, members of Cumbria County Council's local area committee for South Lakeland agreed to award £10,000 to the initiative, provided that the partnership finds match funding.
