Playing at a well-attended Railway Meadow, United took an 11th-minute lead when Neil Creasey deflected a cross past Mike Ducie.
Play was end-to-end with neither side giving any quarter, but Dalton still led 1-0 at half time. Walney pressed hard in the second half with the tricky pair of Mike Nicholson and Steve Brennan trying to prise open the stubborn home defence.
But they stood firm and with five minutes to go Mike Park settled the issue with a well-taken volley for 2-0.
Injured skipper Paul Caine accepted the league cup from sponsor Alan Wilson of the Rifleman's Garage.
Premier division action saw Bootle Reserves draw 2-2 with Holker Old Boys Reserves, with Matthew Gee and Paul Hoyle the Bootle scorers.

In the ASDA Logic West Lancs League Premier Division, Dalton United visited Eagley and went down 3-2, Gareth Jones and Dave Mansergh netting for them.
Division One action took Millom to Tempest United and they came away with a 4-0 win through Carl Waters (2), Waugh and Woodburn.
In an evening match, Dalton United A won the Bar Cairo Cup, beating Vickerstown 4-1 through two own goals plus efforts from Greg Metcalfe and Chris Orr.
Dalton United Reserves lifted the Terry Clinton Memorial Trophy after drawing 2-2 after 120 minutes and winning the shoot-out 3-2 against BAE Systems SC Reserves.
Ged Morgan and Mike Park netted for Dalton and Steve Livingston and Gavin Boyd for BAE before Dalton's Mike Riley saved two penalties.
Walney Island Reserves won the Division One championship and Barrow Celtic Reserves took the Division Two title with a 100 per cent record.
