PROPOSALS by Asda to add a 1,200 square metre extension to its Burton Road store have been recommended for approval by members of Kendal Town Council's planning committee providing measures are put in place to prevent any light pollution.

Councillors also felt that South Lakeland District Council should maximise any planning gain by ensuring that the area was landscaped to enhance the area and to improve a footway access on to Oxenholme Road.

The Westmorland Gazette revealed last month that the bid to extend the retail area of the store by some 17 per cent would create 80 full and part time jobs.
