VILLAGERS eager to see the community efforts of their home recognised are being invited to put forward nominations for the annual Calor Village of the Year competition.

Anyone can nominate their village as long as it has a population of less than 5,000 and they keep their parish council informed.

The entry categories cover community based projects, business or IT schemes or initiatives relating to improving the natural or built landscape.

Lorrainne Smyth on behalf of Voluntary Action Cumbria, which is co-coordinating the competition, said: "We want villages to demonstrate the strength of their communities and the many ongoing projects that help to improve the quality of rural life."

One village will be chosen from this first round to represent Cumbria in the national competition.

For more information contact Ms Smyth on 01768-242130.
