FELICITY spent the best part of two years at the RCA developing materials which would withstand her chosen construction and firing process.
The outcome was a unique substance dubbed ceramic terrazzo' - a hybrid of pre-fired clay and glass which, once fired, can be ground and polished by machine.
Her materials are constantly evolving but the process of making her sculptures remains roughly as following:
l Starting with a block of lightweight Styrofoam, the artist carves out a solid shape using a saw and an electric knife.
l The Styrofoam template shape is then used to create a hollow plaster mould.
l The plaster mould is split into several sections.
l Clay is then pressed into the plaster mould.
l The clay sections are joined together to create a whole, hollow sculpture.
