EVERY Kendal AAC junior athlete taking part took a medal at the Cumbria AAA track and field championships at the Sheepmount Stadium in Carlisle at the weekend.

In the U-17 age group long jump, Katie Huck jumped a 5m08pb and was in a medal position until her sister Claire posted a 5m29pb to take the silver.

Without pausing for breath, both girls went to the high jump, where Claire took gold with a jump of 1m60. Katie withdrew to join the javelin and justified the decision with a gold after a pb throw of 28m54.

Ruth Davis captured three medals. She clocked a 13.4sec pb in the U17 100m sprint for gold and followed up with another in the 80m hurdles,with 13.3sec pb. Her shot put of 8m04 secured a silver.

Alasdair Russell ran well to be rewarded with silver in the U17 boys 1500m.

Three Kendal runners reached the U15 boys 100m sprint final. Peter Spencer took silver in 12.3sec ahead of Peter Rhodes, the bronze winner, but in exactly the same time.

Spencer completed a sprint double with another silver in the 200m, and showed his versatility by securing gold in the shot with a 10m12pb.

The long jump produced perhaps the outstanding performance of the champion-ship when Rhodes twice broke the championship record on the way to gold with an impressive 5m67pb.

James Wright emerged just outside the medals in the 100m in 12.6sec,but enjoyed success in the 80m hurdles, collecting gold with a 13.3sec pb.

Despite jumping with sore shins, Wright's first-round long jump of 5m01 took silver.

After fourth places in the shot and long jump, Rayna Coulson ran a fine U15 girls 100m final in 13.4sec to earn silver In the U13s, Mathew Wright reached both the 100 and 200m finals and came away with a long jump bronze with a 4m17 jump.

Three junior Helm Hill runners competed and Keiran Alderson ran the 3000m in 10min 17sec for a gold, while his brorther Rory was fourth in the U11 600m.

Gemma Crowther took 2.5 seconds off her pb for the U15 800m in 2min.

34.4sec. She later ran in the 1500 metres along with U17 and Senior Women in 5min. 31sec.
