INTELLIGENT traffic lights are easing congestion problems in Kendal, according to Cumbria County Council.
The £15,000 lights installed at the junction of Milnthorpe Road and Romney Road earlier this month use sensors below the road surface to detect how much traffic is waiting and adjust the timing of the lights accordingly.
CCC spokesperson Anne Barnes told the Gazette: "They are letting people through more quickly and the queues do not seem to be as big, there are still queues but they are moving more quickly. They will not have an impact on the overall volume of traffic in Kendal, but they will help to move things more quickly."
