Gala attracts hundreds despite rain

The 39th edition of the event was held on Lupton Field, off Back Lane, which came alive with rides, stalls, activities and events.

This year's theme was stars of Stage and Screen and many townspeople got into the spirit, dressed as characters from films such as Lord of the Rings through to Disney favourites.

Gala spokeswoman Helen Joel reported that the traditional Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling was as popular as ever and the fell racing as competitive as ever. Displays included Milnthorpe Steel Band, Sedbergh Town Band, Maytpole dancing and belly dancing. Sedbergh Primary School also held the finals of six-a-side football and rounders contests.
