TWO early morning accidents caused major traffic tailbacks on the A590 on Friday.
The accidents between Greenodd and Bouth Road end happened within yards and minutes of each other. The first, involving a Peugeot 405 driven by an Ulverston man, and a Ford Fiesta driven by a woman from Askam-in-Furness happened at 6.35am.
The second involved a Ford Fiesta driven by an Ulverston woman who damaged her tyre when she swerved to miss the first accident shortly after 7 am.
The driver of the Peugeot, who asked not to be named, received minor injuries, but police said he did not need hospital treatment.
The Askam woman was taken to Furness General Hospital by ambulance with whiplash injuries. She was released later the same day.
The Ulverston woman, who police did not name as she asked not to be identified, escaped uninjured.
The accidents caused major tailbacks with stationery traffic as far back as Newby Bridge. The road reopened just after 8 am.
