KENDAL AAC hosted a 'home' Cumbria League match at Lancaster Salt Ayre Track last week.
Teams from all over the county took part in the competition in steadily worsening weather, but many Kendal athletes nevertheless could be pleased with their performances.
Kendal dominated the closest-fought race of the day in the Under-15 boys 100m sprint final when Peter Rhodes, Peter Spencer and James Wright crossed the finish line together.
All three were timed at 12.5 seconds, but Wright's surge over the last five metres gave him the victory, beating Spencer into second place.
Spencer avenged that defeat in the 200m final when the first and second places were reversed in times of 25.5 and 25.7sec respectively.
Rhodes went on to win both the long jump and high jump. Despite the poor conditions he pushed up his personal best height to 1m70 in the high jump.
Kendal's Rayna Couslon gained second place in the Under-15 girls 100m final in 13.8 secs. She also came third in the long jump with club newcomer Judith Burrows finishing fifth.
At Under-17 level, Ruth Davies achieved a winning double, taking the 100m in an impressive 13.5secs and shot with a 7m88 thrown.
Katie Huck also triumphed in the javelin competition with a distance of 26m59m and her sister Claire captured the high jump.
Three Under-13 girls, Emily Cole, Kirsty Chaplow and Jenny Alder competed in the long jump and the 150m, with Chaplow reaching the 150m final,
In his first athletics match for the club, Ian Burrow came away with two Under-13 wins, recording a jump of 8m05 in the triple jump and 21m62 in the javelin.
The 'Come and Try' primary school training sessions at Queen Katherine School on Tuesday nights are producing enthusiastic newcomers and Callum Blackie made the step up to competition by took part in the Under-11 70m sprint and long jump.
