Young tycoons from Appleby Grammar School narrowly failed in their bid to be crowned county champions of the Young Enterprise business competition.
The team of students, who traded under the name Two Left Feet, reached the county final after winning the Eden area heat.
The youngsters, who produced and sold seasonal gifts, socks and scarves, were placed joint third overall in the county final, behind the winners Workington 6th form centre and runner-up Windermere St Anne's School.
Appleby students did not come away from the final at Sellafield empty-handed, however, as they won the individual prize for best company promotion, sponsored by the Messenger's sister paper, The Westmorland Gazette. They were also recognised in six other prize categories.
