WINDERMERE boarders are thundering towards their target of raising £19,000 to invest in a new skate ramp.
Skateboarding charity Sk8 has just been awarded £5,000 from the National Lottery grants programme Awards for All.
The donation takes the total in the group's kitty to £12,000, following previous grants of £2,500 from Lakeland Plastics, £2,000 from South Lakeland District Council, £1,000 from Cumbria County Council's Neighbourhood Forum, £1,000 from Windermere Parish Council plus money raised by the children themselves.
"The children are thrilled and delighted," said Sk8 chairman Rebecca Frain.
If a further £11,000 bid from Pools fund The Foundation for the Sports and the Arts comes through, the charity could install its chosen half-pipe at Queens Park, in Windermere, by the summer and have some spare cash to spend on more skateboard kit.
