ULVERSTON Ladies Hockey Club can look back upon a memorable season, having achieved the double of winning both the Netherwood and Cumbria leagues.
After starting the season by finishing runners-up in the Cumbria Tournament, Ulverston got off to a great start by winning their first six matches, including a 4-0 win over Penrith and a 7-2 victory over Kendal.
After losing some vital players, Ulverston's form began to suffer and they only drew with Keswick and lost to Kirkby Stephen. Then, after winning a hard, close match against Netherall 1-0, they lost another match against Barrow.
Nevertheless Ulverston picked themselves up just before the Christmas break to record two excellent wins against Carlisle and Ambleside.
They were without skipper Vicky Evans going into the New Year and had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Windermere.
Their best performance came against Netherall again after another six wins and two draws and despite a 5-4 defeat, they played their hearts out, coming back from 3-0 down to draw 4-4 before losing in the final seconds.
Three wins and a draw from the final four matches saw Ulverston finish with a playing record of 17 wins, five draws and only three defeats from 25 matches.
Top goalscorer for Ulverston for the second year running was Lynn Fitzwilliam with 32 goals. It was honours shared in the Cumbria League, with Fitzwilliam and Evans netting 20 apiece.
Leanne Dullard was voted the most improved player after displaying immense strength in central defence. Midfielders Sue Hool and Charlotte Regan were also outstanding.
The players' player award went to Ulverston captain Vicky Evans for her fine performances at centre-forward.
Evans also collected the person of the year award for her commitment to the club, with Chris Regan also praised for her support in coaching, umpiring and playing as second-team keeper.
Ulverston were supported by the Hope and Anchor, who provided food after each home game and System Technologies who presented them with a new kit.
