THE British Show Pony Society Area 1B hosted Royal International qualifiers on the County Showground, Crook-lands, with competitiors travelling from as far away as Scotland and Sussex, writes Malcom Bewsher.
Overall supreme champion went to Suzanne Webb riding Rotherwood Tomcat, with reserve to Rachel Rodman with her working hunter open champion Rocky B.
Local success saw Jenny Edmondson from Levens clinch a mixed height show hunter win riding Whineray Beach Boy, while Michale Burton from Underbarrow took the cradle stakes and mini working hunter championship riding his grandfather Alan Welsh's pony Glanymor Zac.
Katie Heginbotham from Barrows Green triumphed in the novice 13hands working hunter with Nerwyn Endor and also had a third in the novice nursery stakes on Yealand Granville bred by Babs Ruchwaldy from Yealand.
Babs was also delighted when Yealand Presbytery ridden by new partner Matt Dickinson won the mixed show pony section.
Penrith riders Katie Jenkinson riding Millercroft Scallywag and Emma Sayer riding Figure It Out booked their tickets for the Royal International after finishing second in both sections of working hunters.
Gwen and Dennis Williamson from Ulverston were in action at the NCPA Cumbria Show held at Greenlands and took the youngstock mountain and moorland reserve champion with home-bred Tarnbeck Lucky Dawn, and also had a good third with their mare Greenholme Kitty, while Jane Clark from Farleton clinched an open immediate working hunter victory riding Fair Courage.
