MOTORCYCLIST Ian Waine chalked up his first win of the year when competing at the Aintree Motorcycle Road Racing Club meeting.

Kendal-based Waine, who works as a boilerman at Croppers in Burneside, was riding his Bob Jackson-tuned 400 Kawasaki ZX. which has been prepared by Tony George.

Incredibly, Waine overcame at bad draw of 37 out of 40 on the grid in the opening Formula 400 race, bursting through to third by the first corner and leading for three laps before passed by Dave Bath.

Tucking in behind his rival on the rainswept circuit, Waine audaciously out-braked him on the inside of the final bend to steal ahead and win by .4 of a second.

In the following 500 open race, Waine's chance was affected when he suffered impaired visibility from spray off the leader's back wheel and missed his braking points and evnetually finished fourth.

He led from the start off pole position in the next Formula 400 race, but had bad luck trying to negotiate a back-marker and Jim Hodgson sneaked ahead on the inside and he had to be content for second place.

Oil on the track forced the cancellation of the fourth race and the rest of the meeting was abandoned.

Waine's main target this season in the Aintreet Motor Cycle Road Racing Club Championship and he is also having a crack at the North-East Championships.
