The Levens Broadband Action Group (LBAG) has launched its campaign to bring broadband into the village and surrounding areas.
Laurence Ormerod, founder of the campaign, said there was a dire need to do something if Levens was to get broadband on an acceptable time frame. He referred to the urban - rural discrepency in services as 'a digital divide'.
He contacted every household in Levens to see if a group could be started. After 400 mail drops, a group of 20 supporters came together to start LBAG.
They have done research and met with experts in the area.
"We need about 30 people signed up to bring in wireless broadband," said Ormerod.
Details are available on their website, http://www.lbag.co.uk or you can email reg@lbag.co.uk to register your interest or info@lbag.co.uk for more details.
The next meeting takes place at the Levens Institute on Thursday the 12th of June, 2003 at 7:30pm.
