THREE candidates have come forward to contest a vacant council seat in Kirkby Stephen.
Independent councillor Nick Pemberton did not stand in the recent Eden District Council election on May 1 but at the time of the district-wide election no-one came forward to fill the post. Now, three new candidates have been found to contest the seat:
l Independent candidate Simon Temple Bennett, of Augill Castle, South Stainmore, Kirkby Stephen.
l Conservative candidate Barbara Dowson, of Croft House, Great Musgrave, Kirkby Stephen.
l Liberal Democrat candidate Mark Alan Saunders, of Village Stores and Post Office, Orton.
The election will take place on Thursday, June 19.
