Phil Wilson has quit Lancaster City FC and will take charge of Conference North rivals Barrow on Monday.
Wilson, 54, has been at Giant Axe for two-and-a-half years but has been hampered with cash cuts at City this season.
"It was a really tough decision because I have had nothing but good times at City," Wilson tells the Citizen.
"But I am ambitious and want to win things and unfortunately it is difficult with Lancaster's budget.
"But I believe I have left the club in a better position than it was when I took over.
"The side is good and I am proud of that - but the time was right to move on."
Don't miss Wednesday's Lancaster and Morecambe Citizen for an interview with Wilson on his reasons for leaving and the new challenge he faces plus all the rest of the news from Giant Axe.
