A GIANT silver doughnut was paraded through the streets of Ulverston on Friday as part of a weekend of 'midwinter spectacles' presented by arts collective Welfare State International.
Puzzled onlookers stopped in their tracks to watch the model bun followed by a brass band and a throng of dancing performers with flaming torches and flares.
The Winter Rising the Second' event continues with performances at WSI's Ulverston base at the Lanternhouse on Saturday at 6pm and 8pm and on Sunday at 1pm and 3pm. Tickets cost £3 and are available on 01229-581127.
WSI artists said it would be an "extraordinary performance" that would see Lanternhouse converted into a haunted house where "bureaucratic skeletons urge the unsuspecting audience to feast on a sinister diet of doughnuts, oozing with the jam of conformity."
