POLICE are warning shoppers to be vigilant following a number of bag-snatching attempts in Kendal town centre.

Purses were taken from handbags on two separate occasions in Finkle Street on Wednesday (November 30).

One contained a bank card and pin number and cash was taken from three different banks shortly after the theft.

Cumbria Police crime prevention manager Terry Belshaw said: "It has started and it's likely to carry on throughout the area so people must make sure their bags are secure."
