PLANS to turn Ambleside Post Office into a sports shop has been recommended for refusal by Lakes parish councillors.
At a meeting on Wednesday, Coun Elwyn Bradshaw told members that residents were opposed to having another "anorak" shop in the village and criticised Gaynor Sports' plans to demolish the threatened rural service and create an outdoor shop.
A petition to save the service has been organised by South Lakeland district councillor David Vatcher, and the public has until December 15 to comment to the Lake District National Park Authority on the plans on display in Ambleside Library.
