CUMBRIA Tourist Board's press team has scooped a regional award at the annual Oscars for the public relations industry.

The team took silver in the category for best in-house campaign following a series of initiatives aimed at promoting Cumbria as a visitor destination.

The PR team, whose headline-grabbing ideas included selling a bottle of Lakeland air on eBay, promoting Cumbria as an election-free zone during the General Election and creating a Baarmy sheep of the Lake District ringtone, was also a finalist in the PR team of the year category.

CTB chief executive Ian Stephens said: "Our PR team kept Cumbria firmly in the minds of visitors this year with some great ideas and fun stories for the media. I'm delighted their hard work and widespread coverage has been formally recognised by industry experts."
