I READ with interest of the forthcoming Pride Festival' in Citizen and note that the LGBT community seems to cover every computation and permutation of gayness.
As a hetero', I am happy to say that I have several gay friends who are intelligent, happy, productive and very proud people but they do not feel it necessary to thrust their sexuality in people's faces.
They are discreet, but not ashamed, about their sexuality, and in point of fact dislike the concept of an in-your-face week of events such as is planned by the Lancaster Pride Festival.
They are quite content to live their lives without the fanfare and overtness of several special interest groups within the gay community and I wonder (really wonder) what they think about the choice of the word queer' as used by campaigner Peter Tatchell in his remarks about.
Oh, by the way, could we have a special week in Lancaster to celebrate heterosexuality ?
