PARENTS are demanding that a playground be fixed after two tots broke bones while playing.

Residents of Gregory Court, Hala, say they are disgusted that they cannot let their kids use the play equipment for fear they may hurt themselves.

Mum Debbie Hargreaves told the Citizen: "We have an unsafe play area which has been reported numerous times by myself but North British Housing Association (NBHA) doesn't seem to care about us.

"Even workmen who have come to the court say they have reported it - yet still nothing has been done."

Debbie says two children have broken their collar bone as a result of falls on the play area and it is still not been repaired.

"It is ridiculous and we are at a loss what to do next because all we get when we call NBHA is no reply or a load of false promises."

Parents say they have been complaining for months about the problem and they are outraged that no-one seems concerned that kids have been injured.

There are no signs to say the play area is unsafe - but the mums and dads say nobody in their right mind would let youngsters go on the park now because fences are broken, the soft tarmac has been ripped up and there is broken glass all over the ground.

Debbie says: "We have all tried hard to get things repaired but nothing has happened yet. We pay service charges for the park and landscaping but you wouldn't think so now. It looks rundown and overgrown.

"All we are asking for is a nice safe area for our children to play in."

A spokesman for North British Housing Association said on Tuesday: "The situation now is that the playground has been closed because of the safety concerns and these are being addressed.

"We will be holding consultations with the people in the area to see what they would like in respect of play equipment and the playground should re-open shortly."
